Lost Childhood Object

For our 4D class, we were paired in groups of two and had to each describe a childhood item we had since lost or no longer used. This seemed like a very interesting idea to me, as I never thought much about missing items from my childhood. I also was very intrigued by the idea of recreating another person’s object and getting as close as possible with just their description. I ended up being tasked with creating a Webkins plush of a gecko, who was named “Geico” after the iconic commercials.

After having completed the recreation of Geico, I’m very pleased with my resourcefulness for his green color. The plush was described as having furry fabric for his green top, so I used some shredded paper grass and glued it to the stuffed base. I believe my attention to detail as a whole was very successful, as the elements like side eyes, Webkins logo on his right paw, and a roughly 12-inch length were faithfully replicated. It felt sentimental to remake something that meant a lot to a person in their childhood, and I felt a similar sense of nostalgia when my own toy, a monkey plushie inside a banana peel, was recreated and presented to me. If I were to do anything differently, I think the project would have been easier if I used hot glue in some parts of the base instead of tape. While the final result was sturdy enough, the use of tape made the base delicate and prone to coming undone until the paint and fur were applied. But Geico came out great and he seems happy about it too!
